Dr. John Scurr is a leading UK Vascular Surgeon with a specific interest in venous disorders, including deep vein thrombosis and pulmonary embolism.
He was a Consultant Vascular Surgeon at University College and Middlesex Hospital School of Medicine, a Senior Lecturer in Surgery at University of London and head of the Department of Vascular Research. Dr. Scurr’s research into the management of deep vein thrombosis, including its prevention and treatment, is well known. He has published widely in both the European and American literature and has contributed to most of the important text books in vascular surgery. He has been a participant in many consensus conferences including NIH, European and UK conferences. He was a member of THRIFT 1, the thrombosis risk factor conference, and was chair of THRIFT 2. He was one of the first people to recognize the benefits of comebined modalities for DVT prophylaxis and published the first paper on the extended risks following major surgery. Since 1992, Dr. Scurr has been actively involved in research into why travelers develop deep vein thrombosis, culminating with an important study in 2001 in the Lancet, recognizing that a deep vein thrombosis is probably much more common than originally thought. He has been involved in the development of Dr. Scurr’s® Zinopin®, an important travel supplement which helps support deep-vein health in long haul travelers. In addition to a busy clinical practice, he is very much involved in clinical risk assessment and steps involved to make the application of surgery safer. Dr. Scurr’s hobbies include flying, sailing and walking. |
